The Duke Computer Repair Center and the Duke Office of Information Technology (OIT) can be a great resource for you, if you’ve purchased your computer from the OIT and if it is still under warranty. They’re an authorized repair facility for Apple, Lenovo, and Dell, which means that they can fix it for free, if you bought it from them. While they have access to manufacturer supplied parts, those parts tend to be very expensive and often are only sold in complete assemblies. This may force you to pay for computer parts that you don’t need.
If you didn’t purchase your computer from them, and particularly if your computer is out of warranty, then The Computer Cellar may be a great option. We work on laptop and notebook computers from many brands and manufacturers, including the popular netbooks or minis. Additionally, we have access to some accessories and peripherals that are new, refurbished or used condition for considerably less than you may find there.
